What is it with the enormous attraction we have to video games?

I played a couple of video games and could not see what all the hype is about. You know, people waiting outside overnight to be the first to obtain a game? Whaaaa????? Please explain this to me. My 13 year old nephew loves his games. I don’t see how playing the same game over and over and over again is exciting. Maybe you have to be a 13 year boy like my nephew. I don’t know.

Children like the assimilation to reality and the challenge of these games. This is what holds theri attention.

Video games allow us to escape reality. It lets us do things that would be otherwise impossible. Movies and books allow us to do this as well, but there is no interaction, everything is predetermined. Where else can you go fly your own X-wing fighter through space or play basketball with the pro’s or even go on a killing rampage without any repercussions?
And most people who stand in line for days to get ahold of the new systems that come out arnt waiting to play them. They are standing in line so they can resale them for two, three, up to five times the original cost online. I know because i did this just a month ago with the PS3 and the Nintendo Wii. I sold my nintendo for over $800 and it only cost me 250 + tax. Thats not too bad for waiting in line 26 hours.

I think its the high level of stimulation that attracts them and keeps them. It’s also challenging, which stimulates growth.

Video games take you into a fantasy world, and you can do things you can’t normally do.

like they said video games helps people escape reality, what makes it more appealing than books or movies is that the player has complete control, instead of watching the main character you are the main character, instead of watching the professional players, you are the professional players, you can do almost anything you want
you make the world,
you make the decisions without the consiquenses

self gratification and stimulation. it has to do with age and also the mental part of the person whether something they lack in life, they wish to gain in the games they play.
