video game
christan21 asked:

Specifically, what video game that is simply irreplacable and made the gaming world what it is today. And a game so freakishly good it simply never becomes boring.

I had initally written down Halo, but after some thought I think there is such a game that deserves all the credit. It would have to be Pong. This is the game that started the video game franchise as far as I know.

Hmm. In my opinion i’d say Tekken 3 for the Playstation1. This game can last for a very long time and doesn’t get boring. It was also rated 9.9 on gamestop, got many positive reviews. I’ve had it for 10 years and it’s in very good condition.

You can pick one from any era, or genra, really. For example, you could say its Super Mario Bros, which helped popularise console gaming, Half Life, which helped form the basis for modern shooters, you could say it was Super Mario 64, as the first successful 3D platformer, Goldeneye as the first largely successful console FPS, and so on.

On sheer impact on modern 3D games though, I say the best game of all time was ‘The legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time from 1998. It was the game that revolutionized what a 3D adventure game can be, and many many of the gameplay ideas are still used today in everything from Gears of War to Prince of Persia. With only a graphic boost, OoT could be released today and be successful… and IMHO its still a very fun game. Twilight Princess, OoT’s spiritual successor, did pretty well on the Wii as nothing more as a low res Gamecube port… and I think that says a lot on how well OoT has held up.

The oldie but goodie The Legend of Zelda on the NES.It’s pretty much the Citizen Kane of video games, if any game is.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It’s just got everything a good game needs. Who cares about graphics?

Tetris, its the only game you can just pick up and play without needing to learn a new set of controls and is the most widely available game.

How can you possibly compare video games on 8bit or less systems to the games out now as the ‘BEST GAME OF ALL TIME’.

If you said, most CLASSIC game, fine. But BEST??

    Call of Duty. Hands down.

I’d have to say Zelda but I’ll go with the SNES version, simply amazing. The whole Zelda series as well as the Mario series. Warcraft 3 also made a huge change in RTS’s.

In all technicality, when it comes to being labeled “greatest video game of all time” I honestly don’t think one single game can take that reign, because there are MANY amazing games, whether it’s from the N64 era, Atari, 360 etc. In my personal opinion, and truth be told, HALO opened doors to FPS’s, and really brought console gaming mainstream, you always had Counter-Strike for the PC, as well was Warcraft and everything, but console gaming was broken with Halo. Then you have Call of Duty 4. Best FPS hands down is CoD4, period. You CANNOT argue that. Games should be divided into Best Games for their Genre.
